Historically the AMC has offered many hikes from moderate to advanced. A lesser number of easy hikes are usually offered. This isn’t ‘intentional’, so much as a result that volunteer Leaders tend to lead the types of hikes they want to participate in, and most Chapter Leaders are interested in the more advanced hikes. In addition, for a variety of reasons, minorities tend to be under-represented within AMC, and especially within the AMC Leadership roles. Another under-represented group is those who have a disability. The intent of this series of hikes is to try to reach out to those under-represented groups, make them feel welcomed, and involve them in AMC.
I would be the first to admit that I am not an expert in how to do these things. I just feel that they should be done, and am going to try to do what I can to make them happen. If you are interested in being involved, contact me! This can’t be a one or two person job, it’s a job best handled by as many people as we can muster who want to help.
